"Patching up paradise" was written by Eric Hornbeck and photographed by Rob Hardin between October 2007 and May 2008. The project was a part of their undergraduate theses for the Honors Tutorial College at Ohio University in Athens, Ohio.

Rob Hardin is a 2008 graduate of Ohio University’s Honors Tutorial College where he studied photography and photojournalism. Rob worked at The Post (an editorially independent, student-run newspaper) for four years, serving as the chief photographer during his senior year.

Well versed in digital photography as well as film, Rob has photographed editorial assignments for The Post, Southeast Ohio magazine, Country Living magazine, DVM Newsmagazine, and This Week News, in addition to public relations assignments for Ohio University and the Honors Tutorial College. He also works as an independent wedding photographer.

Currently, Rob is creating a visual history of the Clyde, Kansas, Watermelon Festival. He discovered the annual Labor Day weekend celebration while working on a documentary project about the town in autumn 2006. Rob has since begun the process of returning to the town his grandfather grew up in every year. He intends to continue documenting the festival/town for as long as he is physically able to do so.

Rob has a great passion for all forms of photography including immersion journalism, daily journalistic work, editorial photography,and commercial/portrait photography. He is currently available for freelance work or stock photo sales and can be reached at hardin.robert@gmail.com.

Eric Hornbeck graduated from Ohio University's E.W. Scripps School of Journalism and Honors Tutorial College in June 2008. He was a writer and editor for The Post and volunteered as a conversation partner in the Ohio Program of Intensive English.

He has written and edited for The Cincinnati Enquirer, The Columbus Dispatch, and Perspectives magazine. His freelance work, including travel, issue, profile, and sports writing, has apeared in Country Living magazine, Southeast Ohio magazine, Ohio Journalist magazine, and the Lancaster Eagle-Gazette.

In addition to running and skiing, Eric has participated in bicycling tours in Ohio and Iowa, witnessed the Tour de France, run with the bulls in Spain, driven California's Pacific Coast Highway, and hiked New Mexico.

Eric lives in London, United Kingdom, where he writes for Global Custodian, a magazine covering the banking and financial industry. He is available for freelance writing and editing. He can be reached at eric85@gmail.com.
